What is Refuel?
Refuel simplifies cross-chain transfers by leveraging relayers—dedicated agents who execute transactions on behalf of users for minimal fees. With a focus on reducing gas costs and accelerating transactions, Refuel is ideal for quickly topping up your wallet.
Key highlights of Refuel:
- 🚀 Lightning Fast: Confirm small transfers in just seconds.
- 💰 Ultra-Affordable: Optimized for the lowest possible gas costs.
- 🌍 Wide Compatibility: Works on any chain with just one relayer, requiring minimal setup.
How Does It Work?
Refuel’s relayers are the backbone of its operation. When a user initiates a transfer, they receive a tailored quote from a relayer. Once accepted, the relayer validates the transfer and completes it on the destination chain.
Relayers maintain liquidity across all supported chains and periodically rebalance to ensure smooth transactions. They also post collateral to guarantee reliability—if a relayer fails to deliver, users can claim compensation from the posted bond.
Right now, Refuel operates with its own dedicated relayer system. In the future, the Refuel Protocol will open up to more relayers, making the system decentralized and even more robust.
Why Is Refuel So Fast?
Traditional bridging solutions rely on network-wide consensus to verify transactions between chains. This process often takes several minutes due to the need for multiple validators to agree on-chain actions.
Refuel skips the waiting. By using a single-relayer model, transactions are executed instantly on the destination chain using the relayer’s liquidity. There’s no need to wait for full confirmation on the source chain. This means wallet refueling and small token transfers can happen in just seconds.
Why Is Refuel So Affordable?
Cross-chain transactions typically involve complex on-chain processes that drive up costs. With Refuel, only the essential steps—transferring assets—occur on high-cost chains, while order validation and fee processing are handled on cheaper settlement layers.
This streamlined design reduces gas consumption dramatically. For example, a Refuel transaction costs around 21,100 gas, whereas alternatives can cost up to 80,000 - 250,000 gas. It’s bridging, optimized.
Supported Chains
Adding new chains to Refuel is simple and permissionless. Instead of requiring liquidity pools or complex deployments, Refuel relies on relayers who operate directly on the desired chain. This lightweight approach makes expanding to new blockchains fast and efficient.

Is Refuel Exchange Trustless?
Not yet—but we’re building towards it. Refuel is currently powered by a single relayer system that manages both transaction validation and execution. While this setup ensures reliability today, the upcoming Refuel Protocol will introduce a trustless framework where any refuel transaction can be challenged in UMA.
For now, robust fail-safes, including bonded escrow systems, are in place to ensure funds and transactions remain secure.
